Vegetation and Views: The most visible and eyecatching part is the lovely landscaped garden which must take up at least half of the property. Gently sloping with lovely stone walls in soft curves, it has an array of pretty shrubs and plants (helped by the Dutch owner professing to having "green fingers" and a passion for gardening). Away from the house is a healthy looking pine forest as well as a "nursery" field where there are a myriad of young shrubs, trees and plants passionately guarded over by the owner.
Buildings : There are basically three small buildings making up the whole.
One of them, 8mx3m, is the "main house" and consists of a lounge/kitchen with feature granite open fireplace, bedroom, bathroom and a gigantic sun terrace which faces south and overlooks the Serra do Acor. Lovely practical kitchen with wooden cuoboards. The finishings of the house are all of the highest quality and the wood pannelled and beamed ceilings a delight to the eye.
The second building now serves as a double garage and storage , but the owner envisaged turning it into a nice big lounge / living area. Approx size 4mx5m. Again the finishings are too nice for a garage really ! It too has a terraced area to one side, which effectively lies in the middle obetween the two other buildings. On this patio is the barbeque.
Building number three which is small, is the guest cottage and consists of only a bedroom with a "wet shower" (toilet and basin) built into one corner and hidden behind an interesting wrought iron screen. Approx size 3.5m x 3m. Again the same wooden ceiling and finishings, matching the whole.

Interesting places / activities nearby: The Alva river with its numerous fluvial beaches (where one can swim in the pure water or suntan) are only a stones throw away. Also within 20km is a 22km long barrage where one can partake of watersports or catch up on some sailing. Skiing in the Serra da Estrela is only 55km away and the way there a treat in itself scenery-wise. Go karting and horseriding / pony trekking are on offer a few kilometres away . In the Serra do Acor and the Lousa mountains one can go on guided walking tours.
Strewn around the area are remains of the Roman culture and also a few dolmens. Touristic attractions abound. Close by is Piodao - the most authentic Portuguese village built up completely of slate. Vale de Macieira = where there is a shrine of 12 buildings depicting the "stations of the cross" Caldas de Felgueira - therapeutic / healing baths. Bucaco - Ancient botanical gardens with 500 year old cycads, once part of a monastery. Torre - the top of the Serra da Estrela at 2000m with its craft shops full of mountain products. And not to forget beautiful churches, waterfalls, rivers and the stunning countryside.
